Tidal power technological advances

by Benny on April 19, 2010

One of the newest sources of renewable energy to be successfully utilised in the UK is tidal power. Tidal power is more reliable than wind or solar power, as the tides rise and fall regularly each day, while the other two power sources are dependent on weather.

Tidal power has a huge potential when it comes to energy provision, as the UK’s extensive coastline offers lots of potential for successful tidal power sites. Most tidal power sources involve axial turbines, which turn like windmills beneath the surface of the water and generate electricity through constant motion.

There is a great deal of investment in tidal at the moment, so it looks certain that this alternative power source will go from strength to strength.
