When to use a rechargeable battery

by Martin on February 12, 2010

Contrary to popular belief, a rechargeable battery is not a good replacement from standard battery types in all situations. Due to the way rechargeable batteries work, they will slowly but steadily lose their charge when not in use. Over a period of time – usually a week or so – they will lose their charge completely and will need to be charged again if you want to get any power out of them.

This means that rechargeable batteries are not a choice in devices that are used seldom, and it also means that it is often unwise to carry round rechargeable batteries as emergency replacements should your current batteries fail.
