Jobs claims Flash would drain iPad’s electricity too quickly

by Martin on February 19, 2010

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, has explained why his new iPad device does not support Flash, the popular animation format. The reason given is that Flash requires too much electricity to run, which would mean that, rather than lasting for approximately 10 hours as it does now, the battery would be reduced to a lifespan of closer to an hour and a half. He believes that this significant drop in battery performance is not worth the added functionality Flash can provide.

Apple believes that Flash is a dead format, much in the way that firewire and floppy discs are. Rumour has it that Jobs believes Flash to be “buggy”.
