Pandora batteries

A hackers’ tool which allows the Sony PSP to run custom software, the Pandora battery can also be used to fix “bricked” PSPs.

A PlayStation Portable can become bricked – in other words, locked and unusable – after attempts to install different firmware. Using a Pandora battery can restore locked PSPs and open them in service mode. This allows users to install independently developed software and applications including:

•    Video software.
•    Improved PC connectivity.
•    Internet applications.
•    Telephone software.

However, as a Pandora battery helps to crack Sony firmware, using one will invalidate your warranty should your PSP become damaged.

Creating a Pandora battery
It requires a great deal of care to convert a normal PSP battery into a Pandora battery. If you decide to modify the standard battery pack, you must:

•    Remove the small circuit pin from inside the battery.
•    Load home-developed firmware onto the memory card.
•    Reboot the PSP.

More detailed guides to convert a standard battery into a Pandora battery are widely available over the Internet. You may also be able to buy a battery, packaged with the necessary software, that has already been converted.

However, making any changes to the battery can be potentially dangerous.
